Welcome to the Capital Kennel Club of Juneau website. Check out all the training and canine information we have to offer. Become a supporting member and participate in the many activities we have throughout the year. If you are a new dog owner, then we have many resources to help you and your friend. If you are a seasoned dog owner, we offer intermediate and advanced practices and UKC and NADAC trials locally.
This continuation class will cover the Novice, Pre-Novice and Beginning Novice class exercises and is for those who want to prepare for entering United Kennel Club obedience trials hosted by Capital Kennel Club of Juneau. This course will cover the rules, steps to train the exercises using positive reinforcement training methods, how to enter a competition, and how to get your dog registered with UKC (mixed breeds are eligible to compete in UKC performance events). Although not specifically geared towards Rally Obedience, many of the skills will transfer. There will be reading and DVD homework and an expectation of 15 minutes per day of practice/training with your dog. Limit of 6.
Instructor - Pat Kalbaugh. She has trained and competed in UKC, AKC and Canada obedience and rally trials with 5 dogs over the last 31 years. She has trained and titled 3 to the highest (Utility) level in multiple registries. She has studied under some of the best instructors in the US and UK. She is passionate about training for competition obedience and rally and I want to pass my knowledge onto others.
Masks are required. Since it is difficult to always maintain social distancing, participants must be fully vaccinated.
Equipment Needed: Flat buckle or martingale collar with no tags, 6 foot leash (fabric or leather), yummy treats your dog doesn't usually get cut into very tiny bites (string or hard cheese is a good choice if your dog likes it or small pieces of meat).
